Frequently Asked Questions
Why "Committee"?
Most companies already run marketing by committee, whether anyone calls it that or not. A coordinator carrying the owner's vision. An agency running its own plan. Admin staff doing social from the side of their desk. Committee puts senior leadership at that table, accountable for the whole function, with a committee of experts behind it to do the work.
What is a Chief Marketing Operator?
A Chief Marketing Operator is a senior marketing executive who sets the strategy and executes it. Same seat at the table as a Chief Marketing Officer. Same accountability for the P&L. The difference is that an operator does the work. I build the websites, including this one, using AI-assisted development. I write the copy, run the ad accounts, direct the video and photography, and run the social channels. AI tools now let one person cover what used to need a department. Most executives at my level stopped doing that work a decade ago. I never did, and the tools caught up.
How is that different from a traditional fractional CMO?
A traditional fractional CMO gives you strategy on a part-time basis and hands the work to your staff or an agency. A Chief Marketing Operator gives you the strategy and the execution in one chair. For a company doing $1 million to $10 million a year, that's what makes the model work. You don't need a department underneath the executive. You need the executive to run the department.
How is that different from an agency?
Accountability. An agency is accountable for activity. I'm accountable to your P&L. Agencies are hired to fill the top of the funnel. I'm hired to decide whether that funnel should exist, what a customer is worth, and where the margin actually lives. Often my first recommendation is about the agency you already have, and how much of its overhead you're still paying for.
What does it cost?
Engagements run $3,000 to $10,000+ a month depending on the size of the company. That's roughly what a marketing coordinator or manager costs in Alberta. A full-time Chief Marketing Officer starts near $197,000 in base salary in this province, and passes $260,000 once you add bonus, benefits, payroll taxes and recruiting. You get the executive without the executive payroll.
Who do you work with?
Companies doing a minimum of $1 million a year in energy, transportation, construction, forestry, mining, agriculture, fleet, retail and professional services across the Greater Edmonton Area.
How does an engagement run?
Six months minimum. Marketing that changes a revenue number doesn't do it in eight weeks, and any advisor who says otherwise is selling you a deck. Every engagement starts with a full audit of where your spend goes, then a plan with a specific owner for each line, then execution reported monthly in front of you. Seats are limited because I run each one personally. When capacity is full, new engagements start on a waitlist.
Where are you based?
Committee is based in Edmonton, Alberta and works with companies across the Greater Edmonton Area, including Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Beaumont, Nisku and Leduc.
